Between South Asia, Central Asia and the Iranian plateau of Sijistan lies a triangular-shaped country divided between Afghanistan and Pakistan. There lives the worlds largest ethnic group in Afghanistan numbering over 30 million called the Pashtuns. They consist of about two-fifth of the population in Afghanistan. The Pashtuns are known for there segregation into tribes. The most famous of the tribes are the Durrani and Ghilzai. Other major tribes are the Jadran, Mangal, Khugiani, Safi, Mohmand, Shinwari, Wardak, Jaji, and the Tani. They can be recognized by there language and there way of living, known as Pashtunwali. The homeland of the Pashtuns lies south of the Hindu Kush, but Pashtun tribes are scattered all through the country. Most work in farmlands to make and living. They are known to live in tents made of black goat hair and many of them live nomadic lifestyles as well. In the book The Kite Runner, Amir and his father Baba are Pashtuns. In the book you can tell they are higher class than most, which many Pashtuns are.
